just finished"in their shallow graves" (printed in the US as "the road to stalingrad") by benno zieser , the story of him and his comrades volunteering to join the army then their experiences in Russia , excellent read , next up "devil on my shoulder" by hans becker, a sergeant again on the eastern front ,the first quarter covers his fighting experiences , then his capture , escape then captured again he recounts his experiences in russian pow camps , full of interesting snippets for instance i didn t know the russians used italian pows (armed ) to guard German pows !

Very sad to see former allies being forced to fight each other, but then again the Italians were more of a liability than an ally and turned out to be false friends as well. And the Russians ughhhh.
