    just read this book byReinhold Pabel,an account of his times as a private on the Russian front before being wounded and captured by the Americans in Italy,he then became a pow in the states before escaping in 45 and under a false identity becoming a small businessman with an American wife and child (nobody knew his real identity) in 1953 he was arrested by the fbi , this is his story , well written and an amazing snapshot of American life just after the war ,these days you pay a fortune for german soldier memoirs , this in hb was printed in 1955 and was cheap and a great read

        He wrote this while deported by the USA. I wonder if he ever got US citizenship or was allowed back?
