    "Die Brücke"2008 remake

Just received a DVD of "Die Brücke" which I got for my father. Only thing he wanted the original 58 version with German subtitles and widescreen. To my amazement, I received this German 2008 remake with all its equipment and uniforms in glowing surround sound and in full color! -and I liked it!
This is all new to me,...has anyone else see this film? If so, how do you think the remake compares to the original film?
    Adrian.

The original movie is way much better.
    I totally disliked the remake.

    Cheers,

Interesting, the original is a great film. but if you after a fresh approach to the story line, you wont mind the remake. I admit that the 2008 version fails to live up to the original. But if you are into the vechiles and uniforms like myself the remake I find sits well with me, I dont mind it.
            Thanks everyone.

I really liked the original. I think it had Fritz Wepper and Volker Bohnet in it.

One important aspect of films post 1970 is that none of the actors had had any military service.
The actors in the older films new instinctively how to behave, walk, march, re-act to orders etc... totally lost on hippy 70's and after.

Thats a very good point, citadel. Also with the original Die Brücke was the first post WW2 film made by the Germans examining the madness of war, - in there very recent past.

Also very indicative of the type of requirement for making German films about WW2. Everyone must die or there must be a lone survivor, the war was madness and there are those who don't wish to fight it.

Every major production from Das Boot to Stalingrad to The Bunker has these themes which are also consistent with Die Brücke. Na ja und was dann?

The original stood on it's own merits.

And Günther Pfizmann who was a genuine Leutnant before 1945.

The new movie is trash in my opinion compared with the orignal.

                        "Die Brucke" 2008 remake.

                        Hi,

Did not even know that a remake had been released!

I have now watched several sections of the film on "You Tube" and it seems OK with me.
The original seems to still be the superior film, but the remake is OK.
Why don't the film makers (both original and remake) dress the protagonists in Waffen SS uniform?
Perhaps they may think that viewers may not have sympathy for the characters portrayed in the film if identified as Waffen SS?
Anyway, both versions are a lesson in how children can be manipulated and controlled by "Governments" to do what they are told.

                        Best regards,

                        John

I have the book, and the boys that are the central characters were not in the Waffen SS therefore they do not wear that uniform.
