    Unfortunately, they don't deliver to Canada, Australia, NZ or US, We have to go through their local suppliers. That's great until you find out they will sell it to you at 50% markup and charge shipping that costs almost 1/2 the price of the book itself.

    I made some noise complaining about this ridiculous markup and I got the "we are a small company and have to do this to make ends meet etc. etc.". Well, maybe they wouldn't be if they'd allow shipping from the UK

    I'll wait 2 months from Amazon before I EVER try and buy something from their "Local Supplier" crooks.

      Received the book from Transportbookshop (thru Amazon.uk).
      Took 2 weeks, but packaged very well.
      I love the COLOR now and then photos vs. the old B&W ...

      Looks like a great book!

        Took my first quick looksie this afternoon and got to page 356 and a saw a picture that gave me goosebumps.

        It's a picture of a Panthersturm (dug in Panther Turret) that had been blown out of the ground and landed a few meters from its emplacement with the barrel sticking straight up in the air.

        The caption read that it was taken out by the Canadians near the Hitler Line.

        My uncle fought in Italy and was a gunner in a Tank for the 5th Armoured Division. I can remember him talking about a dug in Panther Turret that had been taken out and was left pointing straight up in the air. As a youngster showing him my collection of war books, I can always remember him leafing through the pages wondered why there was never a picture of that scene.

        Well .. there it is ... amazing.

        Unfortunately he died many years ago ... I wonder what he would have said if he could see this today ...

          That is amazing and a great story Darrell, too bad your uncle couldn't see the photo himself, would have been nice. At least you're actually able to see what he spoke of all those years ago. I can see why it gave you goosebumps !

          I love the After the Battle books, I think I'm going to get this one also.

            I've been a little late coming on board with these books, but at this point I have the following:

            Cassino
            Blitzkrieg in the West
            Battle of Britain
            The Blitz - Vol 1, 2 and 3
            D-Day - Vol 1 and 2
            Ruckmarsh
            The Battle of the Bulge
            Berlin
            The Third Reich
            The Falklands War

            and just ordered The Battle of France (Air war 1940)

            These are addictive.

            The nice thing about the Cassino and Falklands ... are the "Now" pictures are in color. To me this makes a much more "Now" feel to the comparisons rather than the other older editions where both were B&W.

              Managed to finish the book tonight. Must say it's one of the best complete books you will ever find that detail all the battles from January through to June 1944, specifically Cassino, Monte Cassino and the areas South and North along the Gustav Line.

              It also has some details on the followup breaking of the Hitler Line in late May 1944.

              Only one complaint. In several pages during the first Battle, the authors kept getting the dates mixed up. Clearly they meant (for example February 15, but they stated March 15). This also happened on the last few pages of the last Chapter when 1944 was mistakenly placed in for 1943. Overall, this is a minor complaint, but mistakes like that bug me and you have to wonder how they slipped through.

              Overall .. a must have. I just love the newer format of "Color" NOW pictures.

                      NZ members, the book is available from the NZ distributor ('The Military Archive' in Auckland) at $NZ110.00. This is a special wholesale price only available if buying directly from the distributor. It is a very reasonable price, and much cheaper than what one would pay buying it in from the UK. You can get all the details on how to contact the NZ distributor by going to the publisher's website, www.afterthebattle.com, and clicking on the NZ prices' page.

                      I have not had time to do more than look through the book yet but it is very impressive, a large book with over over 400 pages and more than 1200
                      photographs, and a detailed account of the battles.

                      The fact that the book has two New Zealand co-authors gives it a special status for NZ'ers, that and the prominent part played by Kiwi troops fighting in and around the town. Plus the loss of loved ones in familys like my own and the fact that those who did survive said it was like a WW1 battle gone wrong and just as fierce,

                          Got my copy of the book a couple of weeks ago as well.

                          Excellent book with some wonderful photos and up to date comparisons.

                          I would recommend the majority of the ATB books as well as the magazines.

                          Great source of research for anyone with an interest in WW2.

                            Mine arrived in 5 days from Amazon.uk at GBP45.00 or NZ$92.00 including free airmail. (airmail postage is free on all their books to NZ or Aust)

                            A great book and much cheaper than going through local suppliers. e.g in NZ book would cost NZ$110.00 plus postage....
