I was wondering if there are any books by or about Americans who returned to and fought for Germany in WW2?

Of interest to you might be the story of Rudolph Salvermoser (a Grossdeutschland veteran, personal friend, and fellow forum-goer). He was in fact born in Camden, New Jersey (therefore an American citizen, I believe) and shortly afterwards moved to Germany to live with his grandparents. He later fought for the Germans during the war and eventually returned to his homeland and served in the US Armed Forces.

Hope it is interesting. Best regards, Mansal
