    An Unfinished Film

An Unfinished Film is about a movie the Nazis made in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942, apparently on Goebbles orders. Yet the movie was never completed. A few years ago, another reel was found. Has anybody heard anything about or seen this film?

I did get to see the film. It was very interesting and even riveting.

For years, the assumption has been that this film, the only one taken of life in the Warsaw Ghetto, was a film of "daily life" in the Ghetto. One of the German Army cameramen who took some of the film was interviewed. He also took color home movies of what he was filming officially, and parts of these were shown in the documentary. He said that his team was brought to Warsaw in May 1942 and told that Nazi leaders wanted them to stage and film scences of life in the Ghetto. If you only saw the parts of the film that were discovered not long after the war, you would think there were virtually no Germans anywhere near the Ghetto, because none were shown. In the reel the was recently discovered (which consisted mostly of out-takes and multiple stages scenes of the same subjects) and in the cameraman's color home movies, German uniforms are everywehere, including an Army carmeraman filming while standing just inside a mass gave where the bodies of dead of all ages were being buried.

All of this was especially chilling when you realize that, within 3-4 months after the film was taken, most of the people in the Ghetto would be dead and that, even as the crew was filming, many in the Ghetto popoulation were already getting the sense that something catastrophic was about to happen.

I'd put this film on your must see list.
