Has anyone recieved this email lately? (Book related)

I just recieved an email yesterday from a man from Germany informing me about a new book of his coming out. It's about the German code system for equipment, (The waffenampts) and it tells you where your equipment comes from. It looks like a legitamate offer but I want to make sure, because this seems like an interesting book to have. Here is my correspondence with him:

    Him: Dear friends and collectors,

after many years of hard work, my book "Deutsche Fertigungskennzeichen bis 1945" about the secret German manufacturers codes of WW2 is now finished.
These codes were used to cover the manufacturers names on weapons, ammunition and every other kind of military equipment like parts of airplanes, vehicles, ships or radio equipment.

The book has more than 500 pages, is sorted in two ways (after codes and after company-names), contains ALL code systems (abbreviations, number-codes, letter-codes, LDO-numbers for medals & insignias and the RZM-numbers for NSDAP- & SS-equipment). The official list with letter codes ends with "ozz", but I was able to add three pages of later codes.

And the best fact: The foreword and the text is written in German and English!

The part with the codes is not translated, because there is not much to translate. But I have forced the publisher to print the text in English language too. I think it's very important to know the background and the development of the code systems. I have found many original documents in archives to reproduce the way of the development step by step.

There is no commercial distribution to dealers outside Germany, so if someone might be interested, I can only send books from myself.

If someone is interested, the prices are:

    - in Europe 35,- EUR incl. postage (on your own risc) or 37,- EUR for a registered and insured package.

    - to USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan 63 USD by airmail incl. postage (on your own risc) or 66 USD for a registered and insured package.

And if you like I can sign the book for you.

Payment is accepted by bank transfer, paypal or cash (EUR or USD) in a registered letter.

If you know anyone else who might be interested, please feel free to forward my email. THANKS !!

    I have attached some pics!

    With best wishes from Germany
    Michael Heidler

ME: How did you get my email sir? But it does looks like an interesting book.
Does it cover Heer equipment too?

    Sam

    HIM: Dear Sam,
many thanks for your reply. Well, I have got in contact with many collectors around the world during the past year because of my. And from time to time some buyers tell me email-addresses of friends and other collectors, who might be interested too. So yesterday I have sent a round-email to all these addresses that I got. I hope I didn't bother you with my email.

The codes cover ALL equipment of the German military forces (land, air, sea). If you have a piece of equipment that is marked with a three-letter-code, you can find out who made it. The Germans began this system very early under the Versailles treaty after WW1 to cover the secret re-armament. So the Allied couldn't see that the Germans made much more weapons and equipment with much more manufacturers as they were allowed to do. The book also covers the RZM-markings on equipment used by the SS and Nazi-organisations.

    With best wishes
    Michael

        Sam,

There is a 1977 reprint of the original book ISBN:3-88088-214-2

I guess this guy copied it out since war time publications are not copy right protected if I understand it correctly?

        Regards

        Jock

I have this book, the original reprint and another smaller issue done by another author. Of the three, this edition is the best and most comprehensive of them.
