Which movies have German songs in them?

    Hi,

In "Cross Of Iron", if my memory serves we well they sing "Westerwald" at some point in the film.

    Best regards,

    John.

      Yes, that is correct!

Also, there is a movie called "The one that got away". They sing a German song in that movie as well, but I can't recall the song.

Cross of Iron opens with the traditional childrens/folk song "Hänschen klein."

        (German)
        Hänschen klein geht allein
        In die weite Welt hinein.
Stock und Hut steht ihm gut,
        Er ist wohlgemut.
        Doch die Mutter weinet sehr,
hat ja nun kein Hänschen mehr.
        Da besinnt sich das Kind,
        kehrt nach Haus' geschwind.

        (English)
        Little Hans goes alone
        Out into the wide world.
Stick and hat suits him well.
        He is in good spirits.
But his mother cries so much,
For she no longer has little Hans.
Thus the child changes his mind,
        Turning back home, swiftly.

        Horrido!

Off the top of my head, the one German song which is featured in a movie is sung by Hannibal:"Das Männlein im Walde" in the movie Hannibal rising.

                hcliffe,

Ironically, my DVD of the British film "The One That Got Away" is a German issue entitled "Einer Kam Durch" bought in Germany several years ago when the original British issue of the film had not been released!
Will watch this again, as soon as work allows - to find the title of the German song in the movie.

                best regards,

                John.

Very interesting John. I believe they sing when they are out on the road for their exercise routine.

                    hcliffe,

You are right, watched the DVD tonight and when von Werra makes his first escape by rolling off a dry stone wall, Land Army women try to alert the POW camp guards by waving and shouting.
As the column of German prisoners move off, they wave and shout back, to cover the escape..... and sing "Westerwald"!
Must have been a very popular song in those times.

                    Best regards,

                    John.

Yes, Westerwald was very popular. I have sang it at a WWII reenactment with a 25th Panzer vet and he still knew all the words to two verses!
