This serie needs more action, episode 7 had some.

I hope there is bloody final in Iwo Jima or Okinawa or maybe Tarawa...

1st marines were not at Iwo, they were at Okinawa though. That might be the last couple of episodes before the last one.

Sadly I do not have HBO. After BOB HBO wasnt really my cup of tea. Now I wish I should have gtten it for this series. I cant even watch it online because I have no idea what to download. I am paranoid about viruses. Cheers, Raul

I just watched episode 8 last night. Iwo Jima. I won't give anything away here other than the fact it was both powerful and predictable. I've enjoyed this mini-series but nowhere near as much as "Band of Brothers". I think it's probably unfair to try to compare "The Pacific" to "BoB" because simply "BoB" was so well done and it was very easy to "relate" with the characters. Plus "BoB" did not have the side or home stories to sift through. I was hoping for a Pacific verson of "Band of Brothers", but I don't think it lived up to the hype, whereas "Band of Brothers" exceded my expections. "The Pacific" has been good, not great, but good.

I think the home stories are inevitable given the current climate and the fact that I think servicemen in the PTO were rotated back more often than in Europe. Contact with the enemy in Europe was for more constant as well, what with a continuous land frontline as opposed to island hopping. Though BoB is immensely better than The Pacific, I do believe that the difference in theatres of war is highlighted, eg necessary rest periods in Pauvu and the large distances between islands. In BoB the only 'rest' period we see is when Market Garden is announced.

Episode 8 was predictable but a lot of detail was left out, eg Basilone's Navy Cross (posthumous) and the scale of his actions on Day 1 on Iwo. I read in another forum that the DvD release would have more scenes that have been cut from the TV release, hopefully the combat scenes!!!!

After watching the opening episodes, I have to say it pales in comparison to 'Band Of Brothers' in every department.

It certainly lacks the intensity of it's forebear and just does not have the grit to keep my attention and convince a later purchase on DVD.

Furthermore, the quote in episode 1 where the Marine Commander is briefing his men prior to landing on Guadalcanal (along these lines) "Forget Hitler and Mussolini, thats for the Europeans.......until they can't whip them without us"

                        Enough said really.

                        Regards Richard.
Always looking for Luftwaffe Kampfflieger related document groups. In particular anything to Kampfgeschwader 2.

I have watched all episode at last.I liked it very much.It was not like "BoB" , but i can say that it was very good.I like that it was based on true stories from true soldiers and in the end we saw what they have done in their lives
