    Ben,
I agree with you regarding memorable scenes in BOB vs. "The Pacific." I also agree about the virtually useless episode three.
In BOB, to me, there was a"central character", Dick Winters, that the series revolved around, at least for most episodes. He seemed to be the glue that kept Easy Co., and the series, together. No such person in "The Pacific."
Last night's epsisode was better, IMHO, and concentrated mainly upon the Peleliu landing, which also will continue into next week. That's 3 episodes for Peleliu, and one for Guadalcanal!
    Overall, I am still underwhelmed.

Episode 6 sees another great improvement and development of characters, Sledge and SNAFU for example and the Marine Captain. Snippet of preview of ep 7 seems great as well.

In my opinion the episode 6 was the best so far in this series.

First of all, I AM old, but not a "fuddy Duddy", and secondly, what kind of statement is "go make something better" ? Seems a juvenile response to legitimate comments and/ or criticism.

Remember Bob, there are some members who think anyone over 25 is an old Fuddy Duddy. Puts themselves in a certain age bracket if you know what I mean.

I suppose some of us had high hopes from the excellent miniserie Band of Brother and knowing Spielberg and Hank will be behind this one it was a "sure thing" I guess.

Last sunday I forgot the see it. I was almost in shock how I did something klike that! Later on I admited to myself [sadly] this serie wasn't what I was expecting. But I agree the combat scenes are just incredible.

This serie is not going to next to my band of Brother DVD box.

It's interesting how people who know nothing about film making (or life, for that matter, due to their age) are the ones whining the most.....It's the "old fuddy duddys" that ARE the people who make these TV shows and films.

The younger filmmakers (with VERY few exceptions) just don't have the experience to produce product like this.

I'll stick to the films that the old timers produce, rather than the endless REMAKES of older films that the "young whippersnappers" are churning out, because they lack original thought....
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.....

"When I was your age we didn't have none of these fancy new fangled internet machines. When we wanted to look at picture of naked women we'd have to go into a gas station, look the attendant straight in the eye and ask for it. Kids these days, Bah! You don't know how good you have it now."

It's funny how the oldfartisms have to change now.

Last episode featuring Peleliu was not historically accurate. The filmakers didn't+ depict the huge expanse of the Peleliu airfield and, by the way, very few trees were actually standing on Peleliu due to the pre-invasion and invasion pasting the island receieved (looks like a full-blown jungle in the film). They way overdid the Japanese mortar/artillery barrages....just wasn't like that. Japanese had superb fire discipline and fired intermittently, not constantly as shown in the flick. They also overdid Sledge's unit hitting the beach....you would think from watching that killing spree that no one survived. In fact, Sledge's mortar unit had no casualties in the initial landing. Also, K-3-5 (Sledge's company) never had a firefight in the built-area and never got near that admin building! The Japanese didn't fortify it and no mortars were fired on the Japanese tanks that counterattacked. The scenes were fake IMO and acting terrible. Next episode will show a Japanese charging at Sledge during the battle at the bunker on Ngesebus Island....I never read that event in his book? Oh, by the way, how come the Marines uniforms didn't have sweat on them from the high heat and humidity? Realistic? Ok, it's a war fllick and I should be thankful that someone is recognizing the PTO's. Big thumbs down on this mini-series...

the "fuddy Duddy" was used in reff to people acting like old moaning people "you know the kind"

                            Take a chill pill guys

and Im not that young myself, but in reff to young Directors, there is some stunning up and coming film makers. and the old school make flicks just as well

I agree completely. This series has been unbelievable weak. They have screwed up Leckie's character to no end. Just the whole thing from top to bottom has been rotten. I will not apologize for expecting more, and I am not thankful for this effort at all. IMO it does nothing to recognize the incredible efforts of the United States fighting man in the pacific war.
                              best wishes,

I have found this series lacking- until #7 tonight. This episode was a monstrous home run, equal to the best of Saving Private Ryan and BOB. I am really speechless. If one episode can save a series, this one did it.
                                best wishes,
