Anyone seen "A Woman in Berlin"?

Just watched this on Netflix. Very powerful story based on the diary of a woman that survived the final days of Berlin. One gripping movie. http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/A_Wom...?trkid=1294102

Thanks for mentioning this movie. I had never heard of it. I watched the trailer, it looks good. I'll have to track it down at the local video store. I take it you recommend, Rich?

Yes indeed Douglas, I do highly recommend. I had not heard of it either until browsing Netflix and saw it. Well worth viewing.

Richard, I found the final comment quite stunning i.e. the reaction from the German public about the book.

        cheers

I watched this film in the original German in Berlin last year. About 95% of the audience where women and there was a lot of crying at some parts. I felt it left such an impression that I should be leaving the cinema with a blanket over my head.

My friend who just passed away was contacted in 2006-07 to help with the uniforms and medals. I forgot that this film was going to be released.

Definately tough to stomach--your wife/girlfriend will not want to sit thru this movie with you because of the subject matter (rape). Still, if you are a historian, it should be watched, because it happened.
                    Book is excellent as well.

Just a thought, but this would make an interesting double-bill with "Downfall" (ie, watch them one after another for the contrast). Both movies overlap in terms of time-frame--the rapes are going on while the battle still rages.

The same actress who played Eva Braun in Downfall is in "A Woman in Berlin" in a small role.
