I have read this book and I must say that it is outstanding! The detail of the soldiers living in the trenches and their day to day living with death constantly tugging at their sleeve has been masterfully done by Baumgartner.
I would highly suggest this to anyone with any interest in the Great War and especially to those doing WWI living history to get the "feel" as close as we can get it today of the horrors of the trenches.

Rick is also a lifelong reenactor, comes to our gigs. Nice guy.

Eric, sort of a small world. I met him accidently when I saw that he had written a book called "Blue Lightning" that covered my G-G-Grandfather's unit, the 98th Illinois Infantry, during the Battle of Chickamauga in the American Civil War (or War Between The States) and Richard was autographing them. While talking to him I noticed the book "This Carnival of Hell" and picked up a copy of it too.
I think he is a very good author.
