Helion advertizes a forthcoming book on the Hungarian battles by Kamen Nevenkin.

"Siege of Budapest" is a little dry, and focused more on the Hungarian view of the battle.

There was a terrific 7-page article from one of the military history magazines that covered "Operation Konrad" that focused on the SS divisions that was available on line, but I cannot find it now. I will keep checking.

Does anyone have any updates as to good texts on this battle/siege?

I have been to Budapest twice and have been meaning to add some literature on this battle to my collection for some time now.

            Cheers.

I recommend books from the hungarian author Norbert Szamveber. He working in Museum of Military History in Budapest.

              Little reference for the author:

Maier's book as well though from a higher point, from Budapest to the end in Austria. He was a Waffen-SS Ia at several levels.

My mistake, a photo book sought rather than primarily a book to read and learn (sorry). Maier's is 475 pages, large format text with 1,000 footnotes, 125+ appendices, but only 16 pages of photos.

I doubt you'll find hundreds of clear photos from the Budapest fighting, they were a bit busy with other activities rather than camera use, if looking for commanders, award holders, etc.

Mark, the original poster wanted a photobook to help his trip to Budapest, so the remark about not wanting a book to "learn and read" is a bit uncalled for...
