    memoirs of general Gehlen

just finished the memoirs of general Reinhard Gehlen ,Germanys wartime eastern front intelligence chief, very little about his wartime activities , 99% of this book is postwar activities with American and West German inteligence, has dated badly , i was disapointed , though intrestingly he identifies Bormann as a Russian spy !responsible for tipping the Russians off about every major offensive

Was it 'The General was a Spy"? I read it years ago, and liked it--but the cold war was still raging at the time. You are correct, most of the wartime activities of the Gehlen organisation were "compacted" in favor of the post-war era, but at the time you had the Stasi and the KGB both attempting to infiltrate the West German govt and the Gehlen organisation as well.

What is interesting is that when you think about it, Gehlens group was probably the one "governmental" TR organisation that continued to work under the BRD.

no its "the Gehlen memoirs"translated by David Irving, certain en-lightened American officers despite the broad opinion were responsible in setting the Gehlen group up

...pity that it focuses on his post-war activities...interesting about Bormann allegation though! I can't believe he had either the kahunas or the imagination!
        Cheers, Steve
