    D-Day(+) movie?

I know that for some years now a new mega-movie about D-Day was on the works, this one will not be based on the day of the invasion but the battles that followed, it suposed to be a 50/50 account, the allied side AND the german side. It cast was to be a balance of several "cinema box office" names with a LOT of new actors for secondary characters and LOT'S AND LOT'S of reenactors with their OWN correct and "used" equipment/uniforms as extras. Also the plan of using REAL german armor that still works in combination with CG images since they wanted the most accurate representation of the event possible from the german point of view...in a movie!!!!!!

After Band of Brothers TV series the project got a boost and the rumor that it will be a Steven Spielberg production/direction movie got around.

Do anyone know anything about this or the status of it...if any?

The first time I hear of this was after the success of the film Saving Private R. I belive theres also a S. Spielberg interview in which he coments about his "interest" in making a real account of the heavy fighting after the invasion in Normandy using all the new movie tech./visual effects to give this historical event it's real "masive" effect. Bits and pieces of info came tru "E" channel "coming atractions",American Movie Classic review etc, etc.

Also there was talk of it again after Band of Brother/Spielberg involment but is my belief that the war movie they where talking about this time is the "Pacific" mini-series.

I think now this just was "talk" or no funding/interest from the big studios for this type of mega production in this shaky financial times.....BOOMER, I just imagine the M. Wittmann Tiger in his famous encounter with the allied armor colum, Fallschirmjagers,Tigers 1,Panthers etc, etc.

By the looks of things the movie market is for a "sure thing" production or remakes old TV shows. I have seen the type of "blockbusters" productions coming our way in the next months and year and it do not look very promising.

Just one example, one of my all time favorites detective, Sherlock Holmes, is getting a new movie, by the previews it looks like a combination of Jack Sparrow from pirates of the caribbean,The Bourne Ultimatum and James Bond films....hey, I will see it to give it my final score but by the looks of things the director only used the character names, time frame and locations....the rest is reinvented to our modern times....
