    Collector's book recommendation?

    Hi,

As a starting collector i am looking for a nice book that catalogues third reich medals (and/or badges), describes what one must do to earn it, and has ofcourse photos. Preferably also has photos of the medals worn during war.

I know those are a lot of demands but who knows, something like this exists.

I found some on amazon but they are all out of print so there are no images available, and i cant really see what they are like.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Ps. I already have the assman catalogue.

    Dylan,
I am not a badge collector, so will not dare comment on titles, but as a book collector,in general, might I suggest that you search some of the various used book sites for one of those you learned about but are out of print?
Or even approach a used book dealer and talk to him/her about how to find one you want....prices of course can be daunting, but not always.

Welcome to the hobby. My advice is to GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!!

Failing that, you might try to find a copy of Medals & Decorations of the Third Reich by Dr. Heinrich Doehle. It was written in 1943 by Doehle, who was an SS Colonel, and was reprinted in 1995 by Reddick Enterprises. It is translated into English, has award criteria, and has photos of the medals. It does not, however, have photos of the awards in wear.

Here is a copy for $34.99 with free shipping, which is a hell of a lot cheaper that the $126.00 copy on Amazon:

          My Recommendation

Another book that I liked and still use quite often is this one:

Collector's Guide to World War 2 German Medals
          by Christopher Ailsby

This book does a good job touching on some interesting facts and such with the badges and such. Plus it covers quite a range of awards from NSDAP to LW, KM, HEER etc.
A good, all-purpose book that I believe is something that all collectors should have.

          Regards,
          JustinG

I think you left out an extra "n" on the catalog title.

            Cheers
