4 dream history books:must have full citations of sources and biblio and index!
1. A history of Himmler's publishing empire
2. An in depth study of the development of the symbols on the SS foreign legions-specifically their tabs and arm shields. Who, what where and why each individual symbol was used from both the SS point of view and the nationalities involved own attitudes towards the symbols...like who did research into symbols and how these symbols influenced the wearers positively or negatively. Which groups started making their own, etc.
3. An in depth survey of the SS religion
4. A history of the various different grave markers used by SS: standard Christian all the way to Gottglaubige :from a culturally, ideologically and sociological and anthropological angle if necessary.
2 dream militaria books
1. An all inclusive collector's guide documenting all SS propaganda books, magazines, newspapers. with full publishing info and date of runs.
2. A collector's guide to the SS religious cultural objects...whatever they may be...jul-tellers, books, rugs, allach products, etc.

Regarding just the SS newspaper and your publishing interest, there is 1 detailed study in English as well as all the issues being available on microfilm:

Forgot my own:
History
Detailed full length biographies such as those already done on Dietrich (by Messenger), Heydrich (sevveral), Peiper (by Agte) and Kaltenbrunner (by Black). Many done are not actual biographies but mostly tangent topics (such as the German language Hausser bio). Some persons of interest for me would be Hausser, Eicke (beyond Sydnor's overview), Pohl, Wolff, Wunsche, Walter Krüger, Fegelein, Tychsen, beyond chapter length studies already printed, hopefully with remaining family input.
History of SA with all units (Standarte to Gruppe) and commanders, and details of those commanders. Or a detailed Errnst Rohm biography.
New studies (in the detailed format of the Bender Publishing book on Rommel) or translations of in depth existing biographies for some of the better but generally overlooked Army commanders such as Nehring, Kleist, and Balck.
Militaria:
a book on exotic flags and standards with the depth of detail covered in the Bender book on Deutschland Erwache standards
an Allach porcelain book expanding on the old Oliver volume from the 1970s

I did not know we were allowed to wish for translations...so I want Dr. Kater's book "Das Ahnenerbe" to be translated. heck... it is considered the premiere classic on the Ahnenerbe, is about 20 years old and Kater is Canadian. So youd think it would be available in the Queen's English!Comment

Mark please consider this two subjects for your next works
I would like to read also a book with the story of the SS Pz Rgt 3 with many photos.
About militaria I think the next book of Bill Shea about SS headgear will be a nice release.

Everything I have (data and photos) for Tychsen is in "Waffen-SS Commanders" volume 2 and "German Cross in Gold Holders of the SS and Police" volume 2. Some photos are not in both books.
Seems to be a good number of Wunsche photos though his Personalakte is small. He made tapes of his recollections before he died but I don't know who has them or if they survived. I asked him about them being published among the dozen or so letters we exchanged but he didn't reply in specific.Comment

As far as the "History" portion goes, I still find plenty to read now. When I run out I'll know what needs written. I recently finished a book on the Battle of Watterloo, another on the Blitzkreig in the West and am now finishing a book on the Ft. Pillow Massacre. I can't think of 3 militaria books at the moment but 3 WW 2 history books I would like to see are:
A substantial volume covering the Destruction Of Army Group Center - the two English language books I have on the subject only run to 180 or so pages each, and the latest one, Stalin's Revenge, just skims the surface.
Stalingrad: Then & Now Vols 1 & 2 from the publishers of the After The Battle volumes. The first volume could be from the initial start of the offensive in August to the Russian counter offensive in November, while Vol 2 continues and concludes. (or just one large volume to keep it within the 3 book rule!)

I think that books about Wunsche and Tychsen would be very interesting!Tychsen would be great subject for a book , but where will the information come from , Mark has published what he has and its a lot more than most - time has moved on so mnay of those who knew him are gone - it is highly unlikely that it will happen.Mark Y.

In 10-15 years the number of people writing about the Waffen SS will be very small , the information and sources will just not be there unles documents presently unreleased come out into the public or are released from private hands .
Sourcing history is not easy and comes at a price often a huge investment of time and self I don't underestimate for a minute the extent to which Mark (Yerger) and authors like him have put into researching what they have put on the shelves to date.
Max Hassen would have been a good subject - Wunsche , Ribbentropp ,.
The Waffen SS is not my main area of interest in terms of history / WW2 related but time and again I have found Mark's books to be of great use to me - I have gained much from them.
In the recent past I managed to pick up a copy of Mark Bando's book which reklated something of Tychsen's death - finding a copy of Marks "K. of S." (Vol.1) was another "good find".
Whilst on one level the religious aspect of the SS is history and requires someunderstanding it is not soemthing I would be drawn to - I just consider this to have been the product of the worst kind of thinking - a parcel of nutters - Himmler being the surpeme nutcase.
A man whom I would have had no time or respect for - a pity he took his own life.Comment

Militaria books:
1) Book on makers and manufacturers of Third Reich awards - historical info on these firms (more than just a list of names and locations) with photos!
2) Detailed full color Luftwaffe uniform/insignia book using existing authentic examples (not just b/w sketches and period photos). Book should include tunics turned inside-out to show lining materials, detailed comments about the individual uniforms, etc.
3) An EK1/EK2 book with full color detailed front and backs of all known EK1/EK2 varieties (something like the Williamson KVK book would be great).
History books I would just like to see lots of those German language only WWII books and unit histories translated into English.Comment
