    Best EK and RK book

    Hello all,

So which one is the best reference of them all?

An Iron Time by Steven Privitera

The Iron Cross of 1939 by Gordon Williamson

The Knights cross of the iron cross by Dietrich Maerz

Please let me know your personal opinion either way. Thank you.

Not sure it's fair to even compare these three. They were published at different times and subject matter and each theme is different.

This is not a good comparison. Maerz book deals with just the RK. Williamson's book is mainly the EK and Previteria's book is both. In my opinion the best book of the three based upon quality, picture quality and information is The Iron Times. The first printing of The Iron Times set the standard for reference books. The pictures quality is the best and the writting is unsurpassed. When I get a reference book I don't want a phone book type book of pictures, I want to know about the item being featured. If you read The Iron Times it is a HISTORY of the Iron Cross and gives detailed information about the EK and RK. For my money it is the best there is!

        Exactly. all are different.

An Iron Time by Steven Privitera - includes the imperial history, DKIGs etc.

The Iron Cross of 1939 by Gordon Williamson - in black and white, mainly EK1 and EK2

The Knights cross of the iron cross by Dietrich Maerz - only the RK and oakleaves.

Agreed, these references all differ in relative strength in accordance with the author's chosen scope...really impossible to vote on this basis! cheers, S
          Cheers, Steve

I cannot say how many times Dietrich's RK masterpiece & George & Dietrich's EK I book have saved me.

Also greatly enjoy Steve's books as well!

The Iron Cross: 1813 1870 1914 by Frank Wernitz, seems to be a winner.
