    New Totenkopf Book

    Hi,
I have just bought the new release from Heimdal about the Totenkopf Division and it is excellent. It is by Charles Trang and has a joint French / English text and it is absolutely packed with some fantastic photos. What I especially like about this book is it's attempt to name all the commanders of the division down to Kompanie level. I really do recommend this book.

I received my copy too. Well worth the price for the photos alone. Since I have not yet read it, judment about the commentary must be reserved...

Had a chance to examine the book. Generally, a very mixed bag. The text was quite awful as the author was obviously incapable of objective, neutral writing. The caption which explained that German soldiers took lot of photos of French coloured PoWs due to national socialist racial propaganda was downright hilarious.

Photo quality is highly inconsistent. The section on the regiment Thule was of high quality throughout, but basically all photos credited to US National Archives had unacceptably bad scanning/digital processing problems. Since NA photos are usually of high quality, I blame the publisher for this screw up.

Personally, given the above faults, I think the cover price is too high.

I know the author personally and he is French. He has no national socialist racial views at all and he is extremely factual. I don't know where that came from, but to every "fact" multiple opinions can be formed. Best regards.

Yes, Trang is French and based on this book he is very politically correct. What I meant that Trang´s comment that German individual soldiers took plenty of photos of French coloured PoWs due to some racial propaganda reasons is pure BS. And that BS came from Trang´s PC agenda.

Ah, I see what you're saying now. I'll have to see for myself.
