New WWII movie due out this fall

I went to watch "Wanted" lastnight and in the previews was a trailer for a film about a squad of black U.S. soldiers caught behind enemy lines in an Italian town. I forgot what the name of hte film is. Anybody know? It looks like an interesting film and I'll be sure to watch it this fall when its released in the theatre.

P.S. Wanted wasnt that great of a movie.

Have not heard about it yet, but it sounds like a story loosely based on Vernon Baker's experiences to me . . .

It's based on the GREAT book of the same name, by James McBride.....It's a drama that's based around an incident in WWII, where soldiers were trapped in a village in Tuscany, and then carries over into 40 years after the war.

There don't seem to be any similarities to Vernon Baker's heroic, but completely different experience, at all.

                WW2 Film

                Hello,
Personally I wasn't too impressed with the trailer and it is also a Spike Lee film which means I will be making a point of not watching it. I wonder if Clint Eastwood will watch it?

                Regards,
                Jody

Thats right -- this the film that Spike was promoting (by way of publicity) by drumming up racist implications against Eastwood. It is a good guess that some revisionism will be included if Spike Lee is involved.

I also saw a preview to a movie(WWII) that is coming out this fall. It is called "Defiance". It looks pretty good. It is about 3 jewish brothers that escape from Warsaw, I believe, and join up with Russian Partisans in the woods of Bellarussia. Wow, 2 WWII movies in the same time frame of the year nowadays is a miracle....lol. I hope they are atleast decent. With the computer tech we have now I wonder why more stuff isnt done....I have always wanted to see an epic like "Kursk" be done. Oh well, I can dream....

                            Bob,

You are correct - "there don't seem to be any similarities to Vernon Baker's heroic, but completely different experience, at all."

I only paid attention to the brief description in the first post. That description COULD have fit the storeyline for Vernon. Seems at times that I could be a little more attentive, and treat my replies with the same precision in research such as yourself.

                            Brad

P.S. And oh yes, IMO, shame to see that Spike is involved . . .

Whats with this Spike Lee drama? Why does everyone dislike him?

Havent heard of Defiance yet but I'll be on the look out. Also theres a WWI movie due out soon called Passchendaele. Its about a Canadian soldier and there is some sort of love story in the mix. It looks like a great movie and I'm pretty excited about it. Good thing is that my gf also really wants to see it so it's a win-win

Here's link to trailer (not a good trailer, one I saw in theatre's was a lot better)
