    New movie coming-Pathfinders

I just saw an article on Fox about a new WW2 movie coming out called Pathfinders with Michael Conner Humphreys , who was in Forest Gump. I cant seem to find out much about it, but if is in the same quality as Band of Brothers, it should be woth looking forward to.
Does anyone know the progress of the Pacific version of Band of Brothers?

I did a quick google search and found this:
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080510/...s/soldier_gump

From the article Pathfinders is an independently made film about the 504 PIR in Normandy. This may be a typo or error since 504 didn't jump into Normandy but remained behind in England, recovering from heavy fighting and personnel losses sustained in Italy. Each of the 82d AB Div parachute regiments that did jump into Normandy (505, 507, 508) had their own Pathfinder teams. Maybe a trooper or two from 504 may have jumped as part of another PIR's Pathfinder team and the movie is about one of them....

The 504 did supply a lot of the pathfinders to the 507th and 508th.
Remember these 2 units had not seen combat yet.

I do not know the exact numbers but this information was told to me by Virgil Carmicheal who was the BN S2 3/504PIR.

He also stated the 504 was prepared to make the Normandy jump but was held in reserve as part of the deception that Normandy was not the main effort. If the 504 was not participating it surely could not be the main effort. (this may have been unit pride coming out)

I had the pleasure of escorting Carmicheal for three years during All American Week celebrations while I served in the 82nd.
He was a fine man and a true paratrooper who served from Sicily to Berlin.

        Matt,
You're right; Phil Nordyke's book, All American, All The Way states that 26 volunteers from 504 jumped with the 507 and 508 pathfinders.
Reuben Tucker, the 504 CO and Gavin argued strongly for the regiment to make the Normandy jump but Ridgeway decided to leave them in England as the division reserve.
Maybe that is what the movie is about but I cannot find any other information about the film.
I envy your time with Carmichael; I'm sure that was a pleasure you'll never forget.

            yep;504 guys were Pathfinders

I know for a fact that some 504th Paratroopers volunteered for the Pathfinder jump in Normandy.
One of them,a big quiet spoken Alabamian, very much admired in the unit, was killed in action and when his body found had quite a number of dead Germans around him.
He was from C Company, the same squad,in fact, written about in Devils in Baggy Pants.I believe he was known as "Big Rogers" in Ross Carter's account.I'll check if my name recollection is accurate...

the new series isn`t really a pacific `band of brothers`. it`s made by some of the same people , but will follow a different person in each episode, much like bob in that respect but the difference is the people featured aren`t from the same unit. one will be a sailor, one a nurse, one a pilot and so on. i believe the series is to be called "pacific".

Pathfinders: In The Company Of Strangers

There appears to be two seperate films here: Pathfinders: In The Company Of Strangers staring Michael C. Humphreys and the new Band of Brothers. Pathfinders is about the men who dropped into Normandy 30 minutes before the Main Invasion in order to find and secure the drop zones for the D-Day Airborn Invasion. I have more information on the film, if anyone would like. I'm not familiar with the new Band of Brothers film. Sounds good though.

Pathfinders: In The Company Of Strangers

Pathfinders: In The Company Of Strangers is due for release sometime in '09. Not sure on the theater locations though. Another piece of info is that along with the actor who played the Young Forest Gump (Michael C. Humpheys) it also stars the actor who played Young Wallas from Braveheart (James Robinson) and the actor who played Young Henry from Goodfellas (Chris Serone).
