    German period music

    Hello all,

I'm searching a long time now for popular german music of the war period and before that (not the marches or 3rd reich), but can't find many. Can someone help?

    Thanks in advance

I've also searched for such music myself, also with no success. All I've been able to find are the period marches.

There is an online radio station that plays all these tunes.

Do you by accident also know something for French music?

English and American music is available in overflow.

            Thanks in advance,

I doubt many are classical music fans, but some of the greatest performances and recordings are the Third Reich performances of
the Berlin Philharmonic under Furtwangler, and the Preussiche Staatskappelle under von Karajan (who later replaced Furtwangler after the war, and continued conducting until the late 80s).

The wartime recordings are rather easy to find on ebay. You can also hear Karajan's first stereo recording performed live on September 29th, 1944 (Bruckner Symphony #8).

Do a google search for each composer, with "wartime recordings."

Classical music is also appreciated by me! So I will try to find some music by these performers.

                Many thanks!

                  Hi Berend,

You could take a trip over the border to Germany!
I bought a 10 CD box set of "Die Grossen Divas" featuring Marlene Dietrich, Marika Rock, Ilse Werner, Lale Andersen, Zarah Leander, Lilian Harvey and several others for the sum of 17 Euro.
All mostly period recordings in excellent quality.
A single CD of Zarah Leander or Lale Andersen in the UK costs £15, a lot more than the 10 CD set!

                  Best regards,

                  John.

                    German Period Music.

                    Hi,

Recently bought a 4 CD set entitled "Swing Tanzen Verboten!" which features 95 tracks recorded by German and occupied european countries jazz bands during the TR period.
A good proportion of the tracks are cover versions of American jazz tunes given different titles to evade censorship by the Nazi authorities and are in many cases inferior to the original US recordings.
One CD features the Nazi propaganda jazz group "Charlie And His Orchestra" (23 tracks) which broadcast well known songs with altered anti British/US lyrics to the UK during the war years. This CD alone is worth the price of the set, which cost less than £10 in the UK.
The company which publishes this set is UK based and is called Proper Records.
They are on the web, and have made many 4 CD sets of thirties/forties music and radio broadcasts, several of which are aimed at US consumers interested in this period in music!
Well worth checking out, and good value for money.
By the way, I have no financial interest in this company - see what they have to offer!

                    Best regards,

                    John.
