The best I recall was Billy Frick, from the old Appointment With Destiny series by David Wolper from the 1970s.

Not only did he look like Hitler, his characterization was reserved and so unlike the over-the-top comic book-like portrayals of the others (but maybe that is what people expect and want to see)....

I think that Bruno Ganz is the only actor that has done hitler to an actual person, not portraing him as the most evil man on earth so all viewers can feel safe that we do not have anything in common with him. Cudos to Ganz, he transformed Hitler to a human wich made him a lot more authentic. Berfore Downfall I was bugged by the way actors portraid Hitler so herr Ganz opend a lot of doors for actors after the movie. Furthermore, hitler gotta speak german. If he speaks english it is just not belivable. It is like when J.R. speaks spanish

Bruno Ganz did a great job in Downfall, on par with Pvt. Ryan and Das Boot!

Bruno Ganz all the way!!! If only the producers gave the set desing and construction to the company that made the sets for the HBO movie THE BUNKER.

Bingo! Jacobi is my favorite. Ganz was exceptional as well. Both played him very likeable, which of course he was to those close to him. Sir Alec and many others have played him a little too one-dimensional IMO, and too evil, which is 'safe' but not very realistic. I also liked Larry Hovis (Sgt Carter) in a couple of Hogan's Heroes episodes.

My vote simply has to go to Bruno Ganz in 'Downfall'.

                    Regards Richard.
Always looking for Luftwaffe Kampfflieger related document groups. In particular anything to Kampfgeschwader 2.

                      hitler

I would have to second that Richard.I also think the late Alec Guiness would have done a great job.
