Best actor to play Adolf Hitler

    Hello all,

Has anyone got an opinion on who was the definitive actor to capture the personality of Adolf Hitler on film?
My personal preferences are Bruno Ganz in "Downfall" very closely followed by Robert Carlyle in "Hitler The Rise Of Evil", and thirdly Charlie Chaplin in "The Great Dictator".
Would like to hear other members opinions on this subject.

    Best regards,

    John.

IMHO Bruno Ganz is the best beyond any doubts.

Bruno Ganz in Downfall is for me head & shoulders above the rest.

      .....but let's not forget....

Dick Shawn......playing 'L.S.D.' - Lorenzo St. DuBois.....playing Adolf Hitler in The Producers.

Robert Carlyle is a good actor but dont say he looked like Adolf as he didnt at all...

Bruno Ganz is the only one that impressed me as "looking like Adolf Hitler"

            Sir Alec Guiness
Don't believe everything you read on the internet, that's how WWI got started.

Billy Frick (from 1970s program about the 20.July 44)
              Bruno Ganz
Derek Jacobi (didn't look as much like AH, but I thought he captured the personality perfectly in 'Inside the Third Reich')
              Erich
              Festina lente!

Fritz Deitz. I dont think many would have seen this film 'Befreiung' or Liberation. Only available in Germany at moment. the epic soviet story of the battle for Berlin. made from the 50's and finished in 70's. He WAS so much like him. His accent much better than BG, and the image of him.

Charlie Chaplin ?? what kind of drugs you are doing Charlie Chaplin was a funny actor but not good to capture the real personality of Adolf Hitler ,plus he was a F***K communist.

I thought Sir Alec Guiness did a pretty good job.

American actor Robert "Bobby" Watson played Adolf in several films in the 1940's. Most notably in "The Hitler Gang" (1944). He had a remarkable resemblance to Hitler.

How about Anthony Hopkins in the "The Bunker" (1981)

                            Cheers, Ade.

Here is a link to refresh one's memory. It is not complete, but there are a fair few to choose from.

                              http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0027857/

I would be very interested to see Casey Kasem's potrayal of Hitler from 1974 before I can make a judgment.
