    Cloverfield

    Saw it on opening night.

Basically, it's your typical monster movie wrapped in shaky, handheld packaging. Characters of the movie aren't important nor do they try to demonstrate any sincere character development. There is something of a love story in the movie, but it doesn't account to much more than college age drama.

I walked into the movie 15 minutes late and nothing of importance was lost. The whole beginning is BS back story for the most part until the monster eventually attacks the city.

On the bright side, the monster was creatively designed and there are some great action shots in the movie.

Overall, pretty entertaining, and I would assign it an 8/10.

How about the rest of you?

All I want to know is what the monster is.

    Could you describe it?

        Hi

I have been reading the movie press about the film and heavily suspected that it was marketing over substance to get people in the cinema.

With all the hype, the monster was supposed to be something amazing and looking at the photograph, it disappoints on that count.

Still, your review gives me some hope and I am going to see it based on that

On the silver screen, the monster looks much more realistic and intimidating than it does in the hand drawn illustration I uploaded.

Still worth the admission price imo, even if it is ultimately an over hyped movie.

It kind of looks like what you'd expect to see running around New York, maybe not just so big.
It looks like just a good, dumb movie to kill some time and get a little entertainment from

              Cloverfield

A must see for all Ray Harryhausen fans (Beast from 20,000 Fathoms)
This 21st Century Alien sheds facehuggers that bite and cause more than a chestbuster.
Once you get past the Blair Witch camera effect ,the movie is quite good.

                Agreed.

Saw it last night and was glad i did.

It is derivative of many other things...the design of the smaller creatures is very "Starship Troopers" for example.

The only problem visually is the changing scale of the beast.

From vast stalking down the city streets, to at the end when it looks down on a character, merely large..

                Odd.
                Unless there are multiple creatures.

Well worth an hour and 20 mins of your time.

                Patrick.

PS. There is a message hidden in static as the final credits roll.

                PPS.
                A sequel has been optioned.

Personally, as a sci-fi buff, the cast was unlikeable and uninvolving--the movie is a combination of the tv show "thirtysomething" mixed with the most recent Godzilla. The "Hud" character joking in the subway after his best friend had gotten killed was beyond belief.

"The Mist" was the far better movie (and not by any means great), and the creature at the end was much more impressive than the one in Cloverfield.

One of the girls in the preview for that movie is gorgeous. Might be the only way that I would rent it, but from wha tI have heard on other forums and from critics it is not very good.
