I think I saw the author of this talking about it on C-SPAN or something a while back. Sounded interesting.

Yes it is. His advisor who is Jewish, pushed him on the project and provided support to Rigg. It's interesting to do a bit more research on the author and find out how much "flak" (no punn intended) he caught from both the academic community and many members of the Jewish community.

definitely one i have to get my hands on ive known about jewish soldiers for some time (as well as muslim, pole, indian and strangely bhuddists from tibet in the ss) but whats surprising is these jewish soldiers included high level officers, among general rank.

on the subject i remember a film or series a couple of years ago, about a jewish woman who joined the ss and survived the war and helped the allies with information. has anyone else seen this and remember what it was called?

From the research i've done, clearly the Nazi management decided who was Jewish or not, certainly when it served them. Erhard Milch was of Jewish decent and Goring green lighted him. There's a quote somewhere from Goring that is to the effect of "i'll decide who's Jewish or not".

I need to get a copy of this book. I think it's an area that's pretty unexlpored and not spoken often of.

Didn't Manstien have Jewish ancestors as well? If I remember correctly, his family name was actually Lewinsky.

So Goring said "I decide who is jewish or not"; and now some people are trying to be the one's who decide what is true and publishable or not.

This Jewish veterans association poster was published in the 20's as the tide of antisemitic rhetoric from hitler and cohorts was rising. 12000 Jewish soldiers died in the 1st world war.

If anyone has seen Shanghai Ghetto you'll remember the interview with the Jewish man who was able to leave Germany during the 30's and flee to Shanghai. His father was very reluctant to go becuase as a WW1 combatant, who was decorated and subsequently wouned for the fatherland, he saw himself as a German patriot, and did not believe that the nazi rhetoric would cause any danger nor did he belive Hitlers threats would come to fruition. I don't recall if he escaped or not. I want to say he didn't and died in one of the camps.
