Any country that becomes too conservative in any of these three areas stagnates. Those that become liberal progress.
Without social progress you not only stagnate, but you also find yourself being controlled by governments that are either quasi dictatorships, regimes or (our present position) corporate strongholds.

I stumbled across this thread when looking for comments on Biedermann's book. Being a history major, I want to read it, but don't want to put $ in the authors pocket. Is it available used somewhere?

        Guru

Mark Yerger is a "Guru" everytime I am dead stuck in the mud on a Research question or can't read some impossible poorly written German Handwriting or Code he comes through !!! Thank God for Mark. I have no issue with him achieving "Guru" status.

And I am on the record as an Anti-Communist, no problem. And if that's not a PC Stand anymore...well...Auf Wiedersehen.

I did read the book but it was hard going and the author works hard at stereotyping and planting sound bites in the readers mind.
The "Guru" and the "Romancer" are two which stuck in my mind - all somewhat overstated IMO.
