        Katyń

As Pole I am VERY proud that someone in my motherlan finally pictured this darkest episode of Polish Army.

As war movie fan I am very glad that this movie has been made in the most professional way. I could only compare it to famous Stalingrad or Talvisota (Winter War).

A VERY WELL DONE MOVIE. Nothing is overpainted. I think it is just the way it was.

I think some move awards will follow this one. Wajda truly has earned one for KATYŃ.

My guess is that if this one is even shown in the U.S., it will be on a very limited release, only in the smaller art-house theaters. Most larger cities have at least two or three of them. However, if you live in a smaller city, I'd say you could have trouble finding it.

That's all quite a shame, of course, since I'm sure this will be very good and important film in general. However, I'm afraid that it won't be able to compete with the more popular, plotless comedies, chick flicks, and frenetically-paced action/adventure sequels which command prime space and time at most American theaters. It's sad, but unfortunately it really is true. We may even be the last of the American generations as a whole who have a true appreciation for such movies. Children today are spoiled and tragically-conditioned to expect nonstop action-for-the-sake-of-action, regardless of how little sense or plot the movie contains. Yes, we live in a world where mindless entertainment rules, and cerebral themes, metaphors, and significance is snuffed-out by the latter.

Oh well, I'm sorry I got a little sidetracked in thought, but this thread stimulated the thought, and I just had to get it out.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent an errant but relavent thought!

              Chris

P.S. I'd say that DVD may be our best hope for this one. Oh yes, and definitely subtitles! I don't do dubbing on movies like that. When they try to fit in something that only lasts as long as their mouths move, you know you're in trouble...
