I always liked that film and would not mind seeing it again too now as been some time, the documentry also i would have liked to have seen. After seeing the movie for the first time i was realy disapointed to see in the end of it and after all he did to get away and back to germany, that he died later on in action or a crash i think?.Had he stayed a P.O.W i suppose he could be alive still now maybe even.

Ok silly me did a little search and see he only had 21 victories, but then that would have been more had he gone through the whole war?.His plane crashed while on a rountine patrol when he suffered egine failure and"crashed into the sea north of Vlissingen(netherlands) and was killed, why he did not parachute out i dont know?,trapped, knocked out?.Allso more bad news that his plane and body where never found(maybe oned day they will?),also that he had married a girl he knew since before the war after shortly after coming back to germany after is escape.

          must see

Sounds like a highly regarded 'must see' movie and documentary.
Thanks for the back story and availability.

He's the real deal, unlike John Wayne. Respekt!
