3:10 to Yuma

Just saw the film over the weekend and I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. The casting for "Yuma" was fantastic, with Christian Bale and Russell Crowe stealing the show, and the latter providing a surprisingly good Western accent. Acting overall was very convincing and I would agree with critics that the movie is probably the best western since Clint Eastwood's, "Unforgiven."

I've never seen the original 1957 movie, but this current remake was compelling to watch.

Here is a very brief and general plot summary courtesy of IMDB:

"A small-time rancher agrees to hold a captured outlaw who's awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma. A battle of wills ensues as the outlaw tries to psych out the rancher."

They say that its the best Western since "Unforgiven". I have yet to see it, but I want to.

I took my 14 year old to see it - we both loved it . It was like an old fashioned western .

I do like a good western,though doubt i will see it at the pictures,which i hardly go to these days, rent the dvd later on i think.

Unforgiven is by far the best western ever made! With that said, I have to say that I was pleased with 3:10 to Yuma in a whole but I was a little disapointed in the ending shoot out. I expect a lot from westerns now a days after seeing the shoot out in Open Range with Kevin Costner & Robert Duvall. All in all, I really enjoyed the movie but I just wish the shoot out could have been a bit better.

The movie takes place in Bisbee, Arizona, just 20 miles southeast of me. Too bad he couldn't escape and walk down Old Naco Highway to Naco, Sonora, Mexico, just across the border.

If any of you ever come out west, a visit to Bisbee is a must. The Copper Queen Mine tour is great as well as a city built on the sides of the mountains. Some folks there have over 200 seps up the stairs to the front door! There are streets that are so steep, you need a 4 wheel drive to ascend. Loads of antique shops and specialty shops that are open 7 days a week.

If you get to Yuma, the Yuma Territirial Prison is a must to visit. If you don't know what Hell is like, a visit there, reading about the prison, will give you more than a hint.

Thanks for the info, Bob, if I ever head out West again, I'll be sure to stop by that area.

The Unforgiven is still a personal favorite of mine as well, but 3:10 to Yuma is right up there imo.

I tend to agree. It was decent right to the end when it got a little too outlandish.
