Three good books from After The Battle. - All can be ordered via Amzon or via their website.

"Panzers in Normandy Then and Now " By Eric Lefevre.
"Ruckmarsch - The German Retreat from Normandy - the and Now" by Jean Paul Pallud.
"D-Dy Then and Now2 Vol II. Edited by Winston Ramsey.
"Steel Inferno" By Michael Reynolds- good read althouh it deals mostly with 1st SS Panzer Corp.
    Hill 112 Major J.J. How.

As far as well illustrated histories go the ATB titles would be hard to beat.

1 - "Overlord - Jour 'J' En Normandie", Editions Heimdal (in French and English).

"Normandie Album Memorial - Invasion Journal Pictorial", Editions Heimdal (in French and English)

While not cheap, they are well worth the money and are published in Europe.

2 - "Die Invasion - Frankreich 1944" by Janusz Piekalkiewicz, Bechtermünz Verlag (text in German)

Has some shots from the German perspective that I have not seen elsewhere. Very readable history from a great historian.

3 - For a survey of West Wall fortifications and the units that occupied them:

"Le Mur de L'Atlantique - du Mont - St. Michel au Tre'port" by Re'my Desquesnes, publ. Editions Ouest France. French Text. This is absolutely unparalleled in photographic study and layout. Examines all the West Wall fortifications with rich current color photos and period B&W photos of the same fortifications.

"Waffen-Arsenal (Band S-51) - Schwere Geshütze am Kanal" by Karl-Heinz und Michael Schmeelke. German text. Outstanding survey of the heavy coastal guns.

"Waffen-Arsenal (Band 173) - Nahverteidigungswaffen am Westwall-Atlantikwall u.a." by Sonja Wetzig. German text. Excellent survey of the defensive positions and bunkers as well as their technical design to incorporate a variety of weapons.

All three of the above have great technical diagrams of the bunkers.

      Hope these help. Steve

I have this one as well. It is OK. It covers mostly divisional and corps journal entries by the actual generals as the basis for its history and then sprinkles the text with a few soldier actions. It is very broad in scope. As to pics, they are so so. Some are sketches. Some are only fair quality. Mostly leaders pics. As a general survey for more detailed research, this book would be fine, as the actual participants journal entries are probably worth the modest price of the book. Steve
