all quite on the western front

    Hi there!
I have just seeing this movie, from the erich maria remarque book...
Is really fantastic. One of the best pacifistic hollywood movie. The years doesn't aged the strong of the movie, and the productions cut too. The movie goes to the cinemas with 50 minutes less...
Anyway, the battle scene (with beautifull side shoot) are still realistic and full of violence. The observer have the impression that director milestone, put more attention to let die his characters than let them lives.
twelve years later, in the 1942, lew ayres (paul) was fired by MGM, because he refused to join the army.
The film was censured in italy until the 50s.

    cheers

Yes, a very powerful message about the futility of trench warfare, or all wars for that matter, I thought it was a reasonable remake in 1979, the original 1930 film I havent seen in ages.
