I have a 1st edition copy of the Cross of Iron and it is a great book. You can see the similarities to the movie, but the book is more involved and takes a few more turns...I will not say much, so as not to spoil it, but it is a worthy read. Hope you enjoy it.
    Regards,
    Mike

That has absolutely nothing at all to do with the movie.

      The full title:
Cross of Iron : The Rise and Fall of the German War Machine, 1918-1945 (Hardcover)

Willi Heinrich wrote the book "Cross of Iron," which became the movie. That is available on Amazon.com.

Again, John Mosier's book has NOTHING to do with Willi Heinrich's book!

The book "Das Geduldige Fleisch" (The Willing Flesh), by Heinrich was published in 1955, translated in English and then turned into the film. The book has been republished as "Cross of Iron."

John Mosier's book comes out on May 30 in the United States, and it is more of a historical text on how Germany's military rearmed and how the leadership was the key to its success.

            "The Willing Flesh".

I bought this on my father's recommendation when I was 14 , cost the huge sum of 40p back then . ( Well it was to me at the time).

I have another of his books called "The Savage Mountain" which is a good read - another 40p well spent !

The film 'Cross of Iron' is well worth watching and the book 'The Willing Flesh' is essential reading too. Anyone with an interest in the military history of the Wehrmacht will not be disappointed by either.

                      Regards Richard.
Always looking for Luftwaffe Kampfflieger related document groups. In particular anything to Kampfgeschwader 2.

The Cross of Iron is my all time favorite WWII movie. I think they did an awesome job in trying to keep it auethentic. Even down to the tank destruction badges on the tunics. What other movie have you seen where they have put so much attention into the uniforms??? Great movie, and even
                        better book!
                        Regards,
                        Mike
