On ITV4 (UK) at the moment is the biggest pile of sh1t I've seen for a long time

Dirty Dozen...Pilot Episode for a 1988 mini series! American made...I could only stand 5 minutes, has anyone seen it and did it make it to a full series (I hope not ).

    Hi John,
I actually remember watching it and it was one of the last things ever done by Lee Marvin. If I remember correctly Larry Wilcox from CHiPs was in it. Wasn't the plot about them trying to prevent the murder of an SS general? Was it Sepp Dietrich or somebody like that? It didn't last long-thankfully.

It was really bad. You also need to view Hitler's SS which also came out around the same time. It starred Tony Randal (Felix of the The Odd Couple TV show), enough said.
    Regards,
    Jody

      Jody--
You're thinking of the made for TV movie, The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission (1985), and the plot was to kill a general plotting to kill Hitler. The theory being that Hitler's bad leadership would make the war end sooner.

This lead to two more made for TV movies, but without Lee Marvin. Telly Savalas stepped into the lead role (but not as his original character). These were The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission, and The Dirty Dozen: The Deadly Mission.

The series, which was one of the first shows on the then new "Fox Network" barely lasted half a season. I'm not sure how many episodes actually aired. Other than the title, the show had little to do with any of the movies. None of the actors and/or characters were ever seen.

Hitler's SS: Portrait of Evil isn't really bad in my opinion. It is the story of two brothers, one who joins the SA in 1933 and then becomes disillussioned rather quickly, while the other brother (who has no interest in politics) joins the SS. It is one of the few films to look at the early days of the party.

Tony Randall was also only in a supporting role, and one that he did quite well I might add (he played an anti-Nazi comedian, and has some great lines... "Meyer, Meyer"). Also, David Warner (Cross of Iron) played Heydrich.

Hey guys ... thanks for the information. I always thought there was a DIRTY DOZEN II movie. I could never find it. I guess that's why ... it was that movie made for TV that I saw.

            Hello Peter,
I will agree to disagree on that one. I just thought the show was awful, bad uniforms, average acting, etc. I know Tony Randall was in a supporting role, but I felt he was ripping off Joel Grey in Cabaret. I thought he got a little silly after a while.

David Warner in my opinion, was just rehashing the same Heydrich performance that he did in Holocaust.

I think a cool movie that I have not seen forever is the film Operation Daybreak with Timothy Bottoms. I thought it also had a great introduction.
            Regards,

            Jody
