    Collectable Collectors Books

Was wondering if anyone else has a copy of this obscure price guide from the 1978.This was my first.
I can't believe some of these prices ever exsisted though. Knights Cross with Oak Leaves 85.00? Army Para Badge 75.00? Anyone remember prices like this?

Ohhhhh yeah. Struggling through college on $18 a week work study restrictions (I kiddeth not--and that covered rent and food too) in the immediate post-Viet Nam years made those kind of prices as beyond reach then as they are now, for young'uns (and those with loans to repay).

Still, with ten bucks you could get a Panzer badge, a pair of boards, a breast eagle--and have enough left over for the weekly 49 cents McDonald's bargain burger meal.

Gasoline was 29 cents a gallon... when we HAD any....

I'll never forget reluctantly parting with $25 for my first Kriegsmarine War Flag and thinking of how much money that was at the time. $25 seemed to be the going price for a lot of stuff back then (the 70's) as I purchased my single decal M35 Wehrmacht helmet with liner and strap for that price too. I really went overboard when I purchase the 1st lieutenant's Medical tunic for $35. My first tunic ever. Daggers were averaging about $100 for the common ones with hangers (SA, NSKK, Army, Luftwaffe, Red cross enlisted). Of course back then I was also living in a fully furnished 2 bedroom apartment with all bills paid for $190/month.

I made my first buys trading Vietnam era patches for anything third reich. The most cash I paid was 3.00 for a luft buckle. Stuff was cheap but as a school kid in 1969 10.00 just as well been a 100.00!

When I was collecting in the early to mid '70s I got an excellent German Cross in Gold for $75, a 25-numbered GAB for $125 and a Golden NSDAP Party Badge for $135. The dealer I got most of my stuff from (He was honest -- only sold good stuff.)said he could get me an RK for about $100, but I never got around to it. (Yes, those prices were a fortune at the time.)
