German Order of Battle ( Reference Books)

Hello,
Does anyone have either of these books? Are they a worthwhile reference to get?

"German Order of Battle: INFANTRY in World War II"
and
"German Order of Battle: PANZERS and Artillery in World War II"

Both books are by George F. Nafziger and identify each unit operating between 1939 and 1945. Offers a complete account of all divisions and includes exact composition and precise details of each organization.

Would like to hear from anyone that might have either of these and get a feel if they are worth my money! Thanks in advance.

I've picked these up at reduced prices from

(though I order by their mail order catalogs, which come out about every 2 weeks) they often get the Schiffer books titles, etc and have a fairly good, if random selection of military subjects. They are a Connecticut book remainder clearinghouse.

These titles seem very thorough to me, lots of detail, very useful for figuring out the random renumbering of troop units which did not actually change within divisions. There is almost zero campaign information--where the units were, etc--but detailed information on weaponry, organization etc. Nothing on commanders.

Hey Tim,
Georges books are prety good but, it depends on what you are looking for. He tends to deal more with what the divisions were made up of and less with where they spent there time in the service. In fact the ones I have there is very little info about where they were.

Hello, I recommend this book:

Mitcham, Samuel W., HITLER'S LEGIONS, Stein & Day Publishing, 1985.

It does contained a small section on the campaign of each Unit and the Commanders. I highly recommended if you can still find the book.

Thanks to everyone that replied including Tom Becker that e-mailed me last night. Yes, I was more interested in the units and campaign information and will pass on the two for now. Rick, you're correct on Edward Hamilton's catalog, which is where I saw these two advertised. He does have good prices, but you have to move quick sometimes. Thanks again.

www.abebooks.com is still my favorite source of good used books. I got both my copies of Nafziger there. What I find particularly helpful is how he tracks the changes in structure of different units at different points in the war. No other book does as good a job, in that regard.

Hitler's Leions was also mentioned. I like that book for a good "first stop" in researching units. It is a good "quick and dirty" resource that can get one going in the right direction. It has a good bibliography, as well.
