    Book Club?

My wife gave me a good idea the other day when I saw her finishing her book for her club – why don’t we start a book club here? We can choose a book, read it (or re-read it) and then talk about it. One book a month, or one every two months, would be great.

They do not have to strictly militaria, we could expand into general Third Reich military history/personality books. What do you guys think?

I think its a great idea. However, I would think that reference books may not make good subject matter; talks about them would degenerate into where the fakes/misidentified items are in the book. This would not necessarily be a bad thing, but its not really suited to the book club format.

History/biography/tactics type books would be better suited.

    What does everyone else think?

Being new to the forum I would appreciate seeing some discussion on the various reference materials available. Before coming here I never heard For Fuhrer and Fatherland referred to as For Fuhrer and Fantasyland, and didn't know about some of the badges in Michael Tucker's reference. Some collector's such as myself have little contact with other collector's and I know some of these references as taken as gospel.

Either that or posting a listing the best reference books available.

I am reading a great one right now... "Albert Speer: His struggle with the truth". Great stuff... I didn't know if many folks here were actually interested in Third Reich / WWII history or not.

Great Idea, collecting WWII memorbilia is a side-line to my reading, so it's a great idea. Can we or will we be able to share the names of some very good "veterans rememberances" web sites also?

I think its a great idea. Is there any way we can save reviews into a data base like we do on badges and awards ? Not even necessarily a "pull the book to pieces" in depth citique, but just a brief review and maybe a star rating of 1 to 5- a bit like on Amazon. I guess that there are a lot of books out there that many of us don't even know exist.
They can be split into categories just like good booksellers do- Uniforms & Insignia/ Naval/Aviation or whatever.
I tried to start cataloging my books last year and gave up after around 700 or so, and I still keep coming across others or have people tell me about others that they've known about for ages, that I haven't heard of and suddenly "must-have".

                  But still...

This is a very good idea in my opinion.
Let's see if more people like it.

I also think it is a good idea!! We would need some time in advance to get the book though! But I think it's great!!

I think this a very good idea also. A lot of trust and postage costs would be only downfall I can see. No to be pesimistic.

Not a bad idea, even if you already have the book, a good re-read. I agree with dasreichsdeb, a little time for all involved to get that particular book would be nice. As to the choosing of the "book of the month" perhaps we could submit suggestions, let the forum approve or disapprove, and then place those books we want to read on a list. Then randomly pick unless something specific is called to attention that period. Anyway that the forum decides to go about it is fine with me although, these are merely suggestions. So... count me in! and again thanks for the forum oppertunity.
