Which has some intriguing colour footage i have not seen before....
Including an all too short snippet of a very young soldier wearing what looks like a smooth cotton dot tunic.
More comments when fully digested.

I caught some of that programme aswell, very interesting and an often overlooked part of history. Even my girlfriend sat uncomplainingly through out.

I did not see the program, was the film actual period colour footage, or this crappy digital colouring that everyone seems to be adding to b/w film these days..........
They just can't get the tone and colour saturation right, i would rather see untampered-with b/w film.
Just my two pence.......

I heard about this, was it a 3 part series?

After finally catching up with the rest of the programme i thought it was a very good piece of television indeed.
A balanced and objective view of the best and indeed worst aspects of the occupation.
I was particularly stunned to discover the role of the British army in making the VW brand the giant it was later to become, and that one of the stereotypes of Germany (officialdom and the love of multiple copies of paperwork) in a post war sense could arguably be traced back to the import of British red tape, which insisted on a form and permit for seemingly all walks of life. A vice of Government that alas we excel to this day....
Also, on a more sober note was the section devoted to the "detention centre" at Baden Emdorf (sp?), files of the investigation into the events there still being held under lock and key until 2025. A strange echo of the past to events from today.
Next week details Japan, and the political rejection of Churchill in post war Britain.
Well worth viewing all in all.

Hi Patrick, the British connection with VW is covered in detail in an old edition of "After the Battle" magazine. As mentioned in the TV programme Lord Rootes thought the vehicle was useless 
It's worth was not lost on the Russians, who proposed that if the Britis did not want it, a little alteration to the "border" could place the factory in the Russian zone 
I have often wondered on the future of VW if that had happened....
I am looking forwards to next weeks episode.
