TV series Combat

I loved Combat! as well, and still do As for that episode where the sarge takes on a German tank (I think it was an American M60 actually), the episode was called "The Duel". My two favorite episodes are "ALL THAT JAZZ" (action packed) and "WHAT ARE THE BUGLES BLOWIN' FOR?" (we actually fight the Germans along with the Brits in this one - very cool!). Four out of the five seasons have been released on DVD and run about $30 per set (one season incorporates 2 DVD sets). Well worth the money!

thanks for clearing that up for me Mike (its been a while since they cancelled Combat again) its been too long. i used to know every epiosde off by heart. too bad i don't really see Combat in stores up here, $30 is an unbelievable price!

Mike brought back memories I had long forgotten. I thought we were the only kids that were so poor we had to make our own toys. Being about 11 when Combat premiered, the whole block raced to outfit ourselves to play army. Since real toys only appeared at Christmas, we had to improvise. For some reason I was fascinated by Rick Jason's carbine. With my Dad's tools, a piece of 2 X 12 pine, and a file, I decided I wanted a gun like the Captain. After many days of sweat and tears, my creation was ready for battle. Never mind that it had an allen wrench for a slide lever, or tube fittings for a sight and flash hider, to me it was beautiful. For years it served me well until that Mattel Thompson finally appeared under the Christmas tree. My old carbine became a toy box relic until the day finally came when I lost track of it completely.

When my father died about twenty years later and we were going through the stuff in his closet, I found the carbine hidden in the corner with a note stuck in the barrel. It simply said, "You'll want this back some day".

Until this post I hadn't given it a thought for 20 years. I hurried to the attic to make certain it was still there. So do I remember Combat, you bet! Thanks for the memories!

Home made guns

Nice carbine Larry. I would have been proud to carry that. My parents did the same with some of our creations and gave them to me when they downsized the household and moved to Florida. If I can figure out what box they are in I will post a pic of it. The great thing about their saving it is that my son used to play with it when he was little. If I had known I was making a heirloom I would have put real paint on it instead of Dad's shoe polish.

I have the complete Combat series of cards that were issued in a pack of 5 just like baseball cards were. I never missed a show, and as recent as 3 years back they were still showing the series on TV during the day. JR

Combat by far the greatest. that Kirby...Little John...Kage....they're all great! watching them when i was little thinking "i'll bet sarge has at least three medal of honors"

remember the episode when sarge single handidly took on a Tiger II (might be a tiger II... i don't remember) and saved the corpral who got stuck under the truck?

I pick it up at Costco here in Hawaii, 4 disc dvd set for $24.99 ( picked up 3 dvd sets totaling 48 episodes ), way cheaper then Borders Book store at $39.99.
Just watched an episode "Linesman" with special guess Jack Lord from "Hawaii 5-0". I meet Jack Lord and his wife here in Hawaii and they were both very nice folks. Every episode had a special guess that were or became very famous.
Good luck in finding them.......A must have dvd set just for the memories, and what started almost everyone as a kid interested in collecting WW2 stuffs.

That´s a touching story, you know. You made me to remember the time when my father cut "Iron Crosses" from those old Coke tins (those with the "lift-Ring-Pull" inscription) - not the today´s alluminium stuff. Man, how I jumped all over the backyards with that piece of metal secured by Scotch Tape in my chest.

Great show. I still enjoy it. Poor old Vic... remember how he died?

Some great screenplay makes up for all the willing suspension of disbelief the producers ask.

The soundtracks are excellent too - if you ask me - and especially for the mid-60's. The gunfire and explosions are so... cool! And some of the storylines are A+; even though as with all series, there are some stinkers.

As i recall on COMBAT the rifles had this odd, unrealistic "two stage" report, which also showed up on some other shows - maybe they all used the same effects track.

Combat vs Saving Private Ryan

Hello,

This might be sort of an odd post to go along with the thread but bare with me.

So I am sure that you all remember in Combat how every little french town that the guys would liberate, all looked the same. Except that it was from different angle. You know with the Canal and the Bride and the Church. Well I'm not to sure of where that is located but I am guessing that it had to be in California some where and I think it would have had to be quite a large set.

Anyways on to my point when I watched Saving Private ryan for the First Time a was astonished by the similarities between the two towns. The town that is always liberated and the town where the final big battle takes place in. Similarities such as the bridge and canal set up, the church and just the general lay of the land.

Now I know that its 35 years appart but do you guys think that they could have been built on the same lot or with some of the same materials??

Maybe I am totally wrong but what do you guys think.
