Hallo to everybody from Italy. This is my first post and, frankly, I wouldn't know how to classify this thread. I post here and eventually administrator will move it.
I like all German WWII weapons and a reenactor, knowing my skill with 3D printer, asked me to try to reproduce the mounts for a softair Tanaka G33, the short carbine for mountain troopers.
I had available a softair reproduction of a 98k with Red Star Mountain copy of ZF39 and BNZ single claw mount so I was able to take over all exact dimensions and shapes.
This is an original real steel.
Tanaka makes only wonderful reproduction and the mounts fitted perfectly and with a ZF39 copy I think the result is really beautiful.
I think I did a good job, I glued the mounts on the rifle with Gorilla glue, all is solid and nothing wobble. The scope is removable exactly like the original and it is possible to use the sights with the scope mounted.
I like Mauser 98k, so I decided to buy something “a little” less demanding than an original Mauser. I bought a Norinco JW 25A, a carbine cal .22 which more or less reproduces G33. I’m not exactly young so I prefer to use an optic.
A reproduction of ZF39 costs more or less like the carbine, so I bought a honest 4x optic which remember the design of ZF39 and, considered the low level of recoil, I decided to modify the previous project.
Of course there were some issues to overcome.
The major is in the design of the rings which receive the scope.
The original rings close the tube of the optic only upward vertically, but this is possible only with an optic like the original which have the two “bells” removable.
Modern scopes are single body so rings usually are splitted in two pieces horizontally.
I also had to adapt the bases to the shape of 11mm dovetail on the rifle.
Eventually, in addition to pleasant aesthetics, I think the results of fire test are not bad and rewarded my efforts.
