How To Waste Three Days over Christmas: Marder III

I picked up an ancient Italieri Marder III kit at a flea market a year or two back and finally decided to build it as one belonging to the 71st Infantry Division knocked out in Italy in 1944 - maybe the most photographed Marder III out there:

Really nice. I think it was a great way to waste three days during Christmas!

          Good one, Don.

I've always liked the Marder, although wouldn't wish to be a crewman in one.

Thanks, Mike. I think the armor thickness on these was anywhere from 10 to 50 mm, which was not going to stop much more than heavy machine gun fire. You needed to be a brave soul to crew one of these.

                Agree, nice representation!

Those things were pretty dang small; basically standing up as an open, exposed target. Think I'd rather have been on foot.

Marders were essentially intended to be mobile anti-tank guns. Like the US M10 Tank Destroyer.

Great model. I built the same kit decades ago. As in at least 4 decades ago.

Looks like the crew are off scale.

No, the Marder is just that dinky, although Italieri never did a good job with their figures, IMO.

I wasted alot of Christmas days and those to follow with many Tamiya models...what a great waste of time..absolutely love it.

                          Well done on the Marder

                          Regards Larry

One of my favorite models, I think I have all three versions. But it sure is a death trap. J
