Advice on best tiger tank 1/16

I'm thinking of a new project
I would like to make a large scale tiger tank but I am not sure which kit to buy and which kit has the best detailed moldings
Also I know you can purchase extra etchings and which etching kits to buy

My end result I would like a small diorama result

    Any advice be most welcome

    Chris,

if you can find one and pick it up at a reasonable price, there's the Tamiya 1/16th Tiger 1, which is an old kit and does need work doing to it, depending on how accurate you want it to be. Aber make a lot of upgrade sets, but be warned, the dedicated one for this kit is expensive.
Trumpeter make the Tiger 2, for which there is an excellent build website, and again, a lot of upgrade sets are available.

      Chris,

As stated by Ian you have really two choices for the Tiger 1 in 1/16 scale, the Tamiya old static kit and the Hobby Boss "mid production version", this last one is based in a motorized RC/ready assemble version, so minute detail and overall detail is not the best, but with care and some aftermarket detail sets will look great, I am working on one of these Hobby Boss Tiger 1 for a collector, have posted photos of the project here at the forum, you will see some of the needed work to make a better detail one.

The Trumpeter King Tiger, is expensive...BUT...out of the box will give you a supeb and highly detail model inside and out, is not perfect...but very close, if you add some of the detail sets available for it...it will be even more impresive, but in my personal opinion if you take your time in assembly and detail painting and do some little scrachtbuilding, you will get a showstoper out of the box and save some money....maybe for some superb figures in 1/16 by Alpine Miniatures for your diorama. Hope it helps and looking forward to see your Tiger tank project!!
