One needs to scan the object, then "fix" the scan files before printing.
The"fixing" process is critical due to it will correct those areas not picked up by the scanning process. The more times to spend on the "fixing" process, the better is the product and more cost as well.
Of course, if the printing machine is not top quality one, it will be a waste to the scanned files.
Attached images show top quality fixed files and good printing machine.

This printed object( right) loses some quality as not too much done to the scanned files, ie, fixing the scanned files before printing.

Seems like alot of trouble and expense to make items that are available on the market. i cant think of anything i'd have to make with one.

what scanner do you use ?

I do not have any scanner and printer.
I bring my object to a local 3d scanning/printing company to do a 3d scanning/printing for my object.
See attached image which the scanned object. From this scan file, 'fixing" will be carried out to fix those tiny area not picked up during the scanning process.

What you read from this thread is the information those guys there telling me about 3d scanning/printing.

Thanks for posting this up John, and yes what they can do with these 3D printers at the moment, and I am sure as these printers get better and better, you will be able to do anything you want! Just to say that modeller in the video presentation is a hottie

I can think of a lot of things that I could not afford.

What about a 'bronze' bust of the Fuhrer, one of the big ones! What about wall eagles, grenades, badges - all fillers for display purposes.

Yes, the 3 d company guy told me that some of his customers like to make their head in 1:6 so that to replace the one in the action figure.
Now anyone can instantly wear any uniform he likes in 1:6 action figure.

Important to know for all who think to have something printed in 1/6 scale:
Forget about 3d printers which work with filaments. You will be dissapointed about the quality.
They are simply not accurate enough, means too much detail gets lost.

If you want good results head on for SLS or SLA printers.
Much much more accurate, but be aware it wont be cheap.
