Where would I sell my models?

    Hello,
I have not been into the model building scene for quite a while now. I have a LOT of Dragon and Tamiya unbuilt models that I don't need anymore. The kits are not in the sealed plastic anymore but they are in the boxes. I think I still have some Verlinden kits too, but again, they are not sealed up. Lots and lots of accessories too. Almost all my kits are 1/35th scale.

Most are modern Russian, American and British tanks and APC's. I think I still have some German WWII stuff too.

So, where do I sell this stuff? Is there still a market for it? How do I figure out how much to sell the stuff for? This stuff was bought in the late '80's and into the '90's.

    Thanks, Kelly
PS: If you need any Russian, American or British modern armor email me at G36MP5@MSN.COM and I'll see what I have.

    Thanks, Kelly

    Greetings Kelly,

If they are complete (less plastic bags) then you can always try Ebay or alike.
Pricing can very but look at what similar kits are going for on these types of trading sites. There is still a good demand for the older un-built kits as many are now discontinued.

    Good luck and happy selling
    Scott

      Hi Kelly,

As Scott mentioned E-bay or local selling sites, also if you know off any model building clubs you can see if they would buy them, as I am a member of one over here and I have brought a few models from fellow members who want to sell.

        Hello,
Thanks guys that's about what I was thinking of. I didn't know if maybe there might be some forum where these could be sold that someone might know off hand.

I've had them for a while now and I can't think of myself ever building them and they just sit in boxes in my closet. I remember I had plans for all of them for dioramas. I even bought books that show the details on them. I have a whole bunch of Polly S paint too that has since dried up, sitting in a box. That stuff was good paint from what I remember.

          Kelly,
Certainly consider Ebay. Some kits hold their value because they are out of production but some older kits have been superceded by newer and better kits of a particular subject so in that situation a kit may not hold its value.

Model clubs can be a good place and even better are model contests. Almost all of these are put on by IPMS affiliates so you can go on the IPMS web site and find a listing of up coming contests near you.

You can also put them on estand here but if you do let us know on this forum because we would probably be the only ones buying.

There are people that buy up collections of kits, tools, books, etc. One of the best is CRM Hobbies in St. Louis. Chris is a good guy and honest but just remember, he has to make a little profit on the resale of the kits.

Remember that you are not allowed to sell anything on this site unless you are an Association Member. Even then selling 'behind the scenes' off of e-stand is strongly discouraged.

So the above solicitation with email address could earn you some infraction points.

You could try armourama, they have a buy/sell/trade section I have been a member there since 2010 and they are a friendly bunch.

However please bear in mind the older a model is it is usually obsolete and has been replaced with a more modern version of the kit. So be sensible with your pricing

I have sold all of my unbuilt kits at military shows, even though we have some model/toy shows here in the NE area. Tough sell though, and you have to give someone a bargain. Best to find someone interested and sell them as a lot. If you sell online few seem to want to pay for the shipping, etc.

Don't expect alot of $$ though. I am still trying to sell a NIB Tamiya 1/16 King Tiger which was an extra kit, but can't move it.
