U-99 project been sitting un done.

Seeking advice on this. This is as far as I got before I stopped not sure what to do. The top decking is painted gray as the instructions called for but it is not much different then the plactics color.

See below the water line, again i painted it the color the instructions called for but bever see anyone else's subs painted that color.

Any and all advice feel free to fire away. No idea how to give it a weatherd look but I think that would be the best look for it.

Of note is the inside hull is weaighted with BB's and wax so it floats in the water as a real sub would sitting low in the water on patrol. So when you pick it up it's pretty heavy.

        William,
If you are willing to do a repaint, the colors for U-99 should be: Hellgrau 50 (light gray) as the upper/tower color, Shiffsbodenfarbe III (anti-fouling bottom color, very dark gray) as the lower color and a faded black color to represent the preservative that would have been applied to the wooden decking including the floor inside the conning tower. As a side note, the whole of the saddle tanks should be painted the lower SBF III color, and any other horizontal surfaces should be dark gray to minimize being spotted by aircraft while at periscope depth in clearer water.
Everything you want to know about u-boat colors can be found here: http://www.rokket.biz/models/modelsw...57/paint.shtml
I have been using White Ensign Models line of Kriegsmarine paints with great success. Shoot me a PM if you need more info. I am building a VIID boat right now myself.

Tottally open to doing a repaint! I think the directions led me astray.

          Thanks for the link,

If anyone can point to where on line to get the proper colors feel free. The local hobby shop has only a little more then the basics.

I usually buy WEM paints from here, http://www.midtennhobbies.com/ , or directly from WEM https://www.whiteensignmodels.com/ . E-bay sometimes has them too, a little more expensive but usually the fastest way to get the paints. MidTenn carries Lifecolor acrylics and has a Kriegsmarine set which is very good also. Gray automotive primer is a very close match to the Hellgrau 50 color and I have used it as a substitute before. Of course you could mix your own colors too. 100% accuracy when it comes to U-boats colors can be a moot point because colors varied in shade between shipyards and the regulations weren't strictly adhered to.

Where can I find that u-boat model? I like how large it is.

William, just google "1/72 U-boot" and you'll find various places that offer them.
It's a set from Revell, costed me about 50euro and it's a nice 93cm long. One of the easiest models i've ever made.
