Sdkfz 11, First Images and Dio

    Sdkfz 11
    Werfer Regiment 84
    Normandy, July 1944

    --First Images—

It is a Plasticpanzer/Battleground Vehicles piece. The vehicle was made by Mardon Callanta and the road wheels and links are from the RTT 251. I replaced the front wheel with Steve’s (Panzerwerk) recent offering, a wonderful piece.
Special thanks to Steve for the 251 axle ends.
The most time consuming part of this project was the tracks. Each link has three parts and to make sure that they snap together well and to make sure they can swing properly(not to operate it but to make sure the pieces have the least pressure possible) I sanded each piece of each link. But once together the links are very nice.
I attached the wheels with a combination of the kit provided steel axle and several sizes of styrene tubing. Also made a small adjustment to the resin front wheels to allow for the mounting screw inside the wheel. I decided to mount the front wheels straight and not to make them steerable to make a stronger mount for the resin wheels which are heavy.
Also made interior compartment for the mid-vehicle storage bins. I plan to use this vehicle in other settings, so I did not make the Nebelwerfer storage interior. Thought about it, but decided to just place some crates that will represent boxes of 15cm rounds,

This vehicle will be towing a Nebelwerfer and I prepared a crew to man the piece and ride on this half-track. You will see those later. From images(not many) I have found of this vehicle, it had little equipment hanging from the sides. I guess most of it was stored in the large storage bins. As the crew I made has no equipment, their regular equipment is in bundles inside the vehicle. Also made a lot of tarps, camo nets, bundles and some tools.

    The Nebelwerfer 15cm

It is the DID piece repainted and weathered. It will be towed by my last vehicle project , a Sdkfz11. I replaced the stock wheels with the ones from the DID carded accessory set.

Here a dio with both pieces and other items from my motor pool...

DIO: “Werfer Regiment to the Front”
    Werfer Regiment 84
    Werfer Brigade 7
    Attached to 12th SS-Panzer Division
    Normandy, July 1944

Some elements of the Werfer Regiment 84 , recently attached to the “Hitlerjugend” Division, meet with a group of the division’s Reconnaissance detachment..
In the hedgerow in the background and trees nearby there are some elements of the LAH Division including a MG crew, a Grille and several 250s from the Reconnaissance detachment.
Here are some images, many more in this link:

Besides the ever expanding live hedgerow, I recently expanded the “road” and added a Y turn. Behind the “treeline” there are some structures and backdrips to hide real world items!
Most of the vehicles you have seen individually before. There are two new items, the two Kubels. These are the recent Cal-Tek releases, finished one with SS markings and the other in Heer markings.
In the road section I used Schwimm(DML), a Toy Model Zundapp with sidecar, a Cal-Tek Kubel, a BMW motorcycle with sidecar(DML/CH), the recent Sdkfz11 from Mardon Callanta and Plasticpanzer, a DID Nebelwerfer, a DID Kettenkrad, a Mardon Callanta 251, a Maultier O got from Panzerwerk many years ago towing a 21C Pak40 and a Plasticpanzer Opel Blitz.
Near the treeline there is a 250/9 from Mardon Callanta with AH running gear and an AH 250/1, both with plenty of custom parts. Also a couple of 21C motorcycles with sidecars. Near the hedgerow, there is another Cal-Tek Kubel, a single BMW.(DML/CH) a Grille from Majormidnite and another 21C motorcycle.
All the figures are old, except the Nebelwerfer’s crew.
