StuG III ausf.A (Repost)
This is a vehicle from around 2005-2006. The linked images of the old post are long gone. I did a three part post, as I usually do. First the vehicle and then some dios. Here a sample of all the posts related to the Stug III back then.
Made by Panzerplanet (Barcelona, Spain). The vehicle has operating suspension and the rubber around the wheels is rubber! I repainted/retouched the vehicle, mostly toning down the red mud weathering it came with and giving it a similar finish to my other vehicles, although this one is “dirtier”. I also changed the fire extinguisher for a model from Armortex, “S” pieces from toyrific as were the barrel cleaning rods. Placed extra track links in the front as per some Greece and Russia StuG IIIA. Placed a camo net inside the extra tracks. All this is removable in case I want to use the vehicle in another time frame or with a different look.. I repainted the tracks and tow cables

Some general information on the early StuG. This vehicle could represent a Stug III Ausf A or an early Ausf B.
• StuG III Ausf. A (Sd.Kfz 142; 1940, 30 produced)
First used in the Battle of France, the StuG III Ausf. A used the chassis of the Panzer III Ausf. F and the 75mm StuK 37 L/24 gun.
The first StuGs issued to troops in February 1940 with an additional 24 delivered by the end of May. These were used to equip Sturmartillerie Batteries 640, 659, 660 and 665 which went into action in France.
• StuG III Ausf. B (Sd.Kfz 142; 1940-41, 320 produced)
Widened tracks and other minor changes. Some early Stug III B’s retained the A style drive Sprocket rear idler wheel and narrow track.
By the end of 1940 the number of Sturmartillerie batteries was raised to seven and four assault-artillery detachments, each with three batteries had been formed. Additional assault-artillery detachments equipped with the Ausf B were formed early in 1941.
The 2nd Sturmartillerie Abteilung was present during the Balkans campaign, and the 6th Abteilung advanced into the Russian territory in June of 1941.

StuG rolls by an abandoned farmhouse.
Now a SS kriegsberichter comes around and takes some more film of Wittmann and his crew.
An officer from staff company of a Panzer Division, come by to get first hand report of the recent Soviet attack thwarted by Wittmann and his crew.

Here is Michael Wittmann receiving his first of many bravery medals.
On July 12, 1941, he received his Iron Cross second class from Obergruppenfuhrer Sepp Dietrich.
Wittmann and his Stug’s crew turned back an attack by 18 Soiet tanks, destroying six of them. This prevented the LAH reconnaisance battalion from being outflanked.
The Dietrich figure I made with a ITPT HS and the uniform of CH Hausser. At this time Dietrich was an Obergruppenfuhrer and at this time the insignia were of the first type of SS insignia. The other LAH figures, part of Dietrich’s staf, include a shortened Rottenfuhrer driver, shortened NCO, and an officer.
Also made for this group is a LAH officer in gray wrap uni, representing the StuG company commander.
I have no reference that this ceremony was anything like this.
The vehicles in the background are the StuGIIIA, a TUS Kube and a DML Kubel with temporary SS plates.
