    Luftwaffe model airplanes

Hi There, I just returned home from a local hobby store to look for some WW2 German Luftwaffe model warplanes to build. But unfortunately, they dont have any swastika decals on the tail sections or on the front picture of model airplane box. I asked its owner about that. He told me that it was illegal to put the swastika on today's German Luftwaffe model airplanes. He said you can get the decals directly from Japan. Is this work of Political Correctness forces? I hates to see that. I saw the WW2 German airplanes with the swastika decals hanging up from the ceiling. I want to build WW2 Luftwaffe planes with swastika decals as historically accurate. Any suggestions for me to get older German WW2 Luftwaffe model planes with tail decals would be appreciated. Thanks!

When I first discovered this issue I thought it was another example of PC, but apparently it's an economic one. The models are sold internationally, with sales in France, Germany, etc., where these symbols are illegal. Therefore, the producers just deleted them so they could be sold anywhere.

I have the same problem here in Norway.

Though the swastica aint prohibited, most of the models are imported and therefore lacks the swastika decal.

I've solved this problem by painting them on the tail myselves. Of course this wont be easy if you're dealing with a model in 1/72 scale, but again, there's not many options?

Some companies cut the swastika into sections and scatter the separatred sections amoung the other decals on the decal sheet. But in my opinion leaveing the swastika out of a german model kit is like painting bikini's on the world masters nudes!

          ....

Even worse, replicas of the Me 262 which finally made it into the air here in the USA -- and without proper markings. Awful.

Last Luft I did was probably in the 1990's, shame things have gotten so PC that some people have become like chidren, having their eyes and ears blocked in fear that something evil may enter, and they won't be able to handle it.

Here is my dusty example, no problems with Swaz back then.

The best approach is to buy one of the aftermarket Luftwaffe swastikas decal set, depending on the scale and company, you can get an variety of sizes and types for the diferent years/planes that will enable you to do at least 4 to 6 planes.

This PC thing is out of control, even in the model car field is rampant, if you want to do one of those vintage race cars that where sponsored by a Tobacco/Beer company, be prepare to spent some money in aftermarket decals....is a NO,NO in todays mainstream manufacturers, some times I buy a kit that cost around $60 to $80 and then spend about $20 for high quality "correct" decals....is just crazy!!!!

To go even crazier some time way back when they instituted a $5.00 disposal fee when you bought a new tire they even tried to apply it to model car tires but was quickly shot down... how stupid can some politicians be!!!! If you are building a historically accurate model of a WW2 german aircraft and no swastikas then it isn't historicaly accurate. Same thing with one in a museum, they are displaying something that isn't accurate. Just my opinion, has nothing to do with racism or promoteing hatred

Happily, this is not the case with all flying WWII planes!

There are many dealers who sell decals with swastikas

Wow! I had no idea that this was the case now. I have not built models in a long time but I remember all models had the appropriate decals when I built them. I wish now that I had kept mine but I gave them to the neighbour's son. I spent a lot of time getting the paint job right and had some great ones - Me-262 night fighter, Ju-87, Me-109, Fw-190, a beautiful B-25 (not that markings would be an issue for that) and Panzers all at a good size. Last time I looked the prices for models were outrageous but them maybe I'm just getting old!!
