Here are some pics of a scratchbuilt 1/24th scale Albatros D5a I made some years ago. I found
a set of original plans for the AlbatrosD5a in the back of the book published by the Smithsonian.
I had the plans photostated then scaled up for 1/24th scale. The fuselage is made of basswood
and has been handcarved and hollowed out. The cowling, spinner, and main wings are vacuformed
.030 sheet styrene over carved wooden plugs on a homemade vacuformer. The prop is hand
carved from laminated thin hardwood that I gleened from some old 1 quart wooden berry boxes.
The guns are constructed from styrene and consist of over 30 pieces each. The engine is also
scratchbuilt from styrene. The rubber tires are "O" rings. It has a complete cockpit also all
hand made. Was a very pleasent task constructing this one of a kind scale model of a great
aircraft one of my favorites
