    1/6th Scale Messines Ridge

    Hi everyone,
I've been lurking around on here for a while now, learning a lot from you guys on German medals and awards.
I thought I'd show you a few photos of my main interest other than Imperial German medals. I collect 1/6th scale figures, make them "muddy and bloody" then take photos of 'em!

This is a British "Clay Kicker" coming out of one of the mines being dug for detonation in 1917, hope you like him and thanks for looking:

Hi Govy, welcome to the forum!

Nice figure and subject matter. That SMLE would kick like a mule Was it based upon a known weapon or is it artist's licence?

      Cheers, Ade.

Cheers chaps...Thanks for the welcome and comments.

The SMLE is based on a line drawing I saw once on the internet somewhere (I've never been able to find it again so I suppose I may just have had a dream about it ), must keep reminding myself "right click: SAVE AS.." ... Although peaople seem to think there may be something similar in the Iperial War Museum in London.

Matt ; I knew I knew him from somewhere, I just couldn't put a name to the face

I think it has something to do with starwars.

              First things first -great diorama!

The cut down SMLE was -in theory at least- a weapon used by British tunnellers during WWI. A line drawing of it appears in a recent book on the underground war on the Western Front called (I think) "Beneath Flanders Fields".

I've never seen an actual example -and why you'd use one of these when a .455 Webley would do the job with appreciably less kick- but I bet they were carried and used, at least for a limited time. As I recall, the example shown in this model is a very accurate depiction of what the real thing looked like.

              All the best

              Paul.

Thanks for that Lasse L.......You've made an old man very happy

Paul B: I think I read that there was a shortage of pistols and so the miners took the easy option(?) of sawing down SMLEs instead! I must admit I wouldn't fancy firing one ....I would imagine it would take away ALL the senses for a good while

Cheers Rob, the footprints have been mentioned a few times to say the least! I started by putting loads on the base, some going in, some coming out, some crossing, going for the "heavy traffic" look. It just lost the whole "water-filled" look that I wanted, this was the only thing I could do that made it not look too cluttered, so I reckon he's the second man out at the end of his shift
